Bantayan Island, Cebu
Beach front of Mayet’s Resort
Bantayan Island is located in the west of the northern end of Cebu Island,
across the Tañon Strait. It is divided into three municipalities such as:
- Bantayan – covering the central part and is the largest municipality in the island.
- Madridejos – northern part of the island
- Sta. Fe – the eastern portion of the island
How to get there
At first, I thought the only way to get to Bantayan
Island is by sea trip. Actually the island has its very own airfield that
connects the island to Mactan Cebu International Airport of Cebu City through
Air Juan.
Basically most tourist visitors go there via Cebu
City. One can take a bus going to Hagnaya Port and a ferry to Bantayan Island.
If you are currently situated in Leyte or Masbate area then you may ride a
ferry going to Bogo City, transfer to a bus going to Hagnaya Port and then a
ferry again going to Bantayan Island.
Since I’m from
Cebu City, I’ll share with you guys how I did my trip to Bantayan Island from
Cebu City. Me, my husband and a friend were supposed to take the direct bus to
Bantayan Island in Cebu North Bus Terminal. That means a package of air-conditioned
bus and ferry trip amounting to Php215.00 per person (As of October 2017). The bus
will be taken by the ferry to Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island. Unlucky for us we were
not able to avail because it’s fully booked already. But God is good, a Sugbu
Transit bus will take its midnight trip to Hagnaya Port. The fare costs us
Php150.00 each and the travel time was about 2.5 hours. We reached Hagnaya Port
around 2:30AM. From there, we’ll have to purchase our ferry ticket amounting
170.00 each. There will be a terminal fee which costs Php10.00 each. We were
able to catch on the first trip of 3:00 AM and docked in Sta. Fe Port by
4:00AM.

Mainly you’ll enjoy around Bantayan Island using tricycle and
motorbikes. The minimum fare would be P10.00. There are motorbikes and bicycles
available for rent in some hotels/resort also. There are a few of jeepneys and
multicabs with the route of Sta. Fe – Bantayan and vice versa.

costly. Accommodation may cost you from 500.00/night for a single room (fan)

Going Home
It’s a bit long trip for us going back to Cebu City. We reached at Sta.
Fe Port around 1:20PM to catch the ferry that will depart at 1:3PM. The trip
to Hagnaya Port was just an hour. From there we transferred to a Sugbu Transit
air-conditioned bus which departs around 3:00PM. There was a stopover at
Fuente, Carmen for about 10 minutes. We took a short meal there because we
weren’t able to have our lunch. It was Sunday, it’s expected be a lot of people
going back to the city and will be prone to traffic jam. We reached our
destination, SM City around 6:30PM already L.
